About game

Game Mechanics

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is an adventure game displayed in a top view thanks to a string of fixed screens. When the player character moves and exits the field of a screen, another fixed screen is displayed. The player runs E.T. through these screens looking for objects while avoiding enemies. The play area that can be covered by the character is composed of six separate screens. This universe is a sort of three-dimensional cube. The first screen, the top located north of the four main game screens, corresponds to the forest where E.T. was deposited by his ship. The four main screens are scattered with variable size wells. Finally, the last face displayed on the base, south of the four screens, presents three buildings that are the offices of the FBI, the hospital and the house of Elliott.

In this universe, the player embodies E.T. looking for the three parts of the transmitter that allows him to communicate with his ship. These are randomly distributed in ditches called « well », located on the four screens series. It is by jumping into these that the player can explore them to find these objects or extra lives. To get out of a well, the player must avoid his character. It can also collect up to nine Reese's Pieces, candy with peanut butter taste, also present in the film, here used among others as a care item. These are represented by small points on the screen, which appear on the four screens with wells. When the player has nine Reese's Pieces, it can use the option Call Elliott. The player can appeal to his friend Elliott who joins him. The latter can collect them Reese's Pieces, scare and scare enemies, find parts of the transmitter, then return to his house and give additional points if the transmitter is already reconstituted. The player must avoid touching his enemies, a scientist who wants to capture him to bring him back to the hospital and an FBI agent who tries to confiscate the collected objects.

Each area, or screen, allows the player to perform a particular action, indicated by an icon at the top of the game screen. Thus, it can by location detect objects, teleport to another area or return enemies to their starting point. Each action or displacementE.T. reduces the total life points of the character. At the beginning of the game, it has 9,999 points of life. Move, fall into a hole or perform an action loses a point of life. These points can be regenerated by eating Reese's Pieces. Finally, when they are reduced to zero, E.T. lose a life. His friend Elliott then made his appearance and regenerated him using a life. The player initially has three lives, four if he gets an extra object, a bouquet of flowers. In addition, the game offers several levels of difficulty to integrate into the gameplay only E.T. and Elliott, or add the FBIThen the scientist.

When the three elements of the transmitter are gathered, E.T. manages to send his message to the call zone, materialized by a special icon at the top of the screen and must reach within fifteen seconds the landing zone of the mother ship. He then goes back to the stars, the score is calculated and the Reese's Pieces retained add a bonus points. The game then starts again at the same level of difficulty, keeping the player's score, but the emitter's coins are randomly placed in other places.
