Présentation

 

The PlayStation 2 (PS2) is a sixth-generation video game console marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony. It was released on March 4, 2000 in Japan, on October 26, 2000 in North America and on November 24, 2000 in Europe.


The PlayStation 2 has replaced the PlayStation in the range of the same name. It is the most popular console in the history of video games, with 139 million units sold. It was an immediate success with a million copies sold in a few days in Japan. The games catalog includes more than 3,000 titles. The console was in competition with the Dreamcast, GameCube and Xbox.

 

Historique

 

The development of PlayStation 2 is led by Ken Kutaragi. The console is officially announced at the E3 show on May 11, 1999. The appearance of the console and the Japanese release date are unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show in September 1999. The console was originally released in France on October 26, 2000 but its launch will be postponed until 24 November 2000.
