Game Mechanics

ECW Hardcore Revolution includes professional wrestling and sport video game elements for objective view. Inspired by the universe of the American wrestling federation Extreme Championship Wrestling, it presents options including different types of games and arenas, a multitude of playable characters, as well as solo game modes and up to four players.

On seating consoles, the game features a starting menu composed of different options ' Exhibition (single panels), Career Mode (career mode), Tournament (tournoi), Pay Per View (management of payments at the meeting), Create Wrestler (creation of a character), Utilities (configurations) and Cheat Menu (ticket codes) ' game modes' mainly VS (single mach), Tag Team (match per team with towers), Tornado (match by team without laps), One on Two (one against two), One on Three (one against three), Lumberjack (drinks) 3-way Dance (combat to three), and Battle Royal (Royal Battle) ' and game types including Steel cage (cash) Deathmatch (match) hardcore with objects), Barbed Wire match (match with barbed wire), and Last Man Standing (last man standing), and customizable arenas. The Game Boy Color version presents a start-up menu made up of five options that include Challenge Mode ( Challenge mode), Career Mode (career mode), VS Mode (single mach), Barbed Wire match (match with barbed wire), and Training Mode (training).

The option Career Mode allows a progression in the game. The player selects the wrestler of his choice, and starts "down the ladder": it progresses by winning many battles, by participating in the great pay-per-views, then finally to WrestleMania. The option Tournament proposes a ranking in which the player must arrive at the top, and thanks to which he can unlock certain wrestlers (as in Career Mode). The option Pay Per View allows the creation and management of a payment at the session, including the customization and design of an arena. Create Wrestler, or Create-a-Player, allows the creation of a character usable during the fighting, by assigning him a name, gestures, catches, physical attributes, clothes, dialogues, and a personality.

ECW Hardcore Revolution offers the player about 50 wrestlers and fighters (a dozen only in the Game Boy Color version) each with an entry theme, and characterized by their levels of power, speed and combat resistance. The characters represent the wrestlers of the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) at that time (between 1999 and 2000), including Balls Mahoney, Dawn Marie, Justin Credible, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Spike Dudley and Tajiri. Each player has a health bar that, when it decreases according to the number of hits received, also reduces the resistance and increases the chances of being eliminated by fall. During a game, the player can use simple moves such as punches, kicks, quote shots, parades, jumps made over the ring, immobilization in front or back, projection in the ropes, as well as a multitude of finishing shots.

During a Deathmatch, the player can recover an object launched by the public and use it to inflict more damage to his opponent. During a Barbed Wire match, the player can propel an opponent in the barbed wires tied around the ring for additional damage. At times, the public scans the name of the most powerful wrestler of the moment, which makes it temporarily more resistant. At the end of a game, all the performances by the wrestlers, such as the number of shots given, are recorded as percentages in a report.
