The fourth part on DS, Professor Layton and the Call du Spectre appears as a prologue to the series since the events take place 3 years before the Etrange Village. Professor Layton and Luke don't know each other yet, so we're seeing their first encounter in this episode where a flute-controlled spectrum tries to devastate the city of Mishallery.
