About game

Game Mechanics

Panzer-Jagd is one wargame which simulates, on a tactical scale, battles of armoured vehicles on the eastern front of the Second World War. The player embodies a German commander and faces the computer that commands the Russian forces. The game consists of an enchainment of confrontation that simulates the progression of German troops in enemy territory. Each confrontation takes place on the map of a randomly generated area consisting of square boxes that represent plains, forests, a city and a stream. The player initially has twelve squads of Panther assault tanks, four Panzer III squads and nine infantry squads supported by artillery. In the first confrontation, the enemy forces are composed of four squads of T-34-85 tanks, three anti-tank guns and three infantry squads. During each confrontation, the player's goal is to eliminate all enemy units or capture the city before a number of turns, which depends on the level of difficulty. When the player reaches his goal, the program generates a new card defended by new Russian units and by the units that managed to escape during the previous confrontation. The player does not, however, benefit from any reinforcement and can only count on the units that survived during the previous battle. The game has no real end because the program continues to generate new cards until the player has no more unity. However, the player's performances are measured by a score that evolves according to the number of captured areas, destroyed enemy units, lost units and the number of laps played.

The units are characterized by their fire power, their range and their motion capacity. The fire power of a unit decreases depending on the losses suffered in combat and the unit is destroyed when its fire power becomes zero. The German units of assault tanks also have fuel reserves that are more or less empty depending on the distances travelled and the terrain crossed and which are filled at the end of each confrontation. The Russian units are initially hidden from the player and appear on the screen only if they cross an open field or if they are spotted by the German troops.
